Mt. Pleasant fire puts training house to good use
MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa —
A Heartland fire department has taken fire safety and prevention to the next level.
Mount Pleasant firefighters built a fire training house for the community a few years back. Wednesday night, the department put it to good use during an open house.
Fire Chief Stewart Kinney told KTVO the house has a bedroom with an artificial smoke machine that shows families what it would look like if their house was on fire.
"It's something the guys kind of came up with and thought, you know, we had the facility, we had the land and we had the guys who were capable of putting it together, so we built it, and it's been a good improvement to the city," Kinney said.
The department uses the house several times a year, like during the city's pancake breakfast in the spring.
