MUM alum is well on his way to setting a world record

Alex Cequea

A Heartland resident is attempting to break a Guinness World Record for the longest speech marathon.

Alex Cequea has been speaking at the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center since 11 a.m. Saturday, and goes until 11:30 p.m. Sunday to break the current world record, which stands at 33 hours and 46 minutes. Cequeaâ??s speech marathon is scheduled to last 36.5 hours, and heâ??s still going strong, talking in hour-long segments telling stories of his life experiences.

Get this! Alex hasnâ??t had a wink of sleep or a drop of caffeine. He does get five minute breaks after each segment, and he takes that time to refuel with healthy snacks and beverages like tea and coconut water.

â??I have a list of things I want to do before I die and this is number three on that list,â?? Cequea said. â??The other thing I want is to inspire people to do unique things, and public speaking is something that's close to my heart, so this is something that's right up my alley.â??

Cequea is also a Maharishi University of Management graduate and the editor-in-chief of iPhone Life Magazine.
