The trial of an Ottumwa man charged with attempted murder is set to start next week in Van Buren County.
Online court records indicated that the trial of Rusty Eugene Salter, 33, is scheduled to begin October 8 in a Van Buren County courtroom. He also faces four additional lesser charges.
Salter was arrested last fall with three other men in the Van Buren County Village of Selma.
On October 14, 2012, Van Buren County Deputies responded to reports of an altercation and shots fired at 1883 Bridge Street in Selma.
The investigation ended with charges against Salter for attempted murder and four other counts. The three other men present during the incident were charged with either drug or assault charges.
At one point this summer Salter's case looked to be resolved after he entered a guilty plea to a single count of intimidation with a dangerous weapon.
However, that plea was withdrawn after the defense and the prosecution agreed that a mistake had been made when drawing up the plea agreement.
