On Tuesday, officials released the name of a southeast Iowa man who was killed this past weekend after the motorcycle he was riding crashed.
Matthew Elliott Bannier, 38, of Stockport, Iowa died from injuries he sustained in Saturday's accident.
According to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office, Bannier was heading west on Highway 2 when he drove off the road into a ditch and crashed into a metal road sign near the intersection of Highway 1 and County Road W-40 around 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
Authorities say Bannier suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital at 4:42 p.m.
He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Helmets are not required by Iowa law.
