There's a new business along the Highway 63 bypass that runs through Kirksville.
Just off Route P, not far from the Round Barn, is Phelps Farm Services.
Friday was their open house and Luke Phelps, the owner of the new business, tells us he is excited to have the first business along the bypass. He says it promotes growth and more business for the city.
"I've always been passionate about small business, I've always wanted to own my own business," said Phelps. "I've been into farming my whole life and my father and grandfather have always been in farming. It's what I know the most and I just love being able to work for myself."
Phelps' business will offer seed sales and agriculture chemicals. The business is already open for orders, although there is still some construction work to be done on the building.
He says it has been a lot of hard work getting his business started and the work is far from over.
Phelps tells us he's ready for the challenge and ready to offer Kirksville another small business.
