Preferred Family Healthcare, a Missouri not for profit healthcare agency, released a statement regarding a new housing development located at the 1700 block of North Osteopathy Street in Kirksville.

Preferred Family states, â??Callyn Heights Housing Project will provide affordable housing for households at or below 60 percent of the local average median income level.â??

They say quality affordable housing has demonstrated improvements in housing stability, employment and school attendance.

However, neighbors are saying they wouldn't be as concerned about the facility if they had ways of knowing what's being built.

â??I don't know what is being built there and I think if they had a sign or something in front that says coming soon or coming to Kirksville, a housing facility or whatever it is, it would kind of give me less worries,â?? said concerned neighbor, Daryl Grant.

Preferred Family says they intend for the project to be an asset to the community and they are planning to host an open house for the public to attend.

There will be 25 rental units built and The Missouri Housing Development Commission has approved the project. The commission requires projects funded with low income tax credits meet specific criteria.

These criteria include meeting an affordable housing need in the community, economic feasibility, and demonstrating local support. Support for the Preferred Family Healthcare application for housing included area legislators, mayorâ??s office, Kirksville Chamber of Commerce, Northeast Regional Medical Center, Truman State University and many others.
