New mapping system to be easier for 911 dispatch

The Adair County 911 system has gotten a bit easier.

At Wednesday's E-911 board meeting in Kirksville, the board was introduced to the new 911 mapping system that 911 dispatch has been using since June.

In the past, dispatch had to use two different maps, one for 911 calls and the other for the automated phone system.

Now, both maps have been combined making the dispatch's job faster and easier.

"Before we would have to log out on to another map to the automatic phone system. For a boil order anything like that we had to log on to a separate map. Now it's all on one map, so it's much easier for us," said Adair County Central Dispatch Director Chris Killday.

The new mapping system is internet based so the police and fire departments can log on as well to see all the 911 calls that come in.

The board was very interested in the new mapping system.
