As outgoing members of the Ottumwa City Council are honored on their way out, new council members step into the fold.
Right away, the new council will be faced with the next budgeted for the city.
Work sessions on the budget will take place in January and February with a March 15th deadline for the budget to be certified.
Then, they will have a goal setting session where the new members and mayor will pick their priorities for the city over the next couple years.
"Some of the goals probably will continue like unification, bridge building with all the groups, economic development type issues, finance, personnel, the infrastructure--continually trying to make improvements there," said Ottumwa City Administrator Joe Helfenberger.
Another big challenge new council members will face is the shear amount of reconstruction the city will be taking on in the next year.
2014 is shaping up to be one of the biggest construction years in the history of Ottumwa.
