New principal named for Ray Miller Elementary
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. —
Kirksville R-III School District has voted in a new school principal for Ray Miller Elementary School.
Kristin Van Rie will take over for the 2018-2019 school year.
Van Rie has worked at the school for 10 years, spending the past two years in an administrative position.
"I feel like I owe this district a debt of gratitude. My daughter is a successful college student today because of the education she received at the Kirksville Primary, Ray Miller, William Matthew Middle School, and the Kirksville High School," Van Rie said.
Van Rie attended Northeast Missouri State University, which is now Truman State University.
She told KTVO she’s looking to continue positive strides in Ray Miller's literacy program as well as continue with new changes to its math program.
Van Rie is replacing the current principal, Jennifer Botello, whose contract renewal was unanimously voted down by the Kirksville School Board.
