New students welcomed to Kirksville with open arms
New students had a chance to get to know Kirksville a little bit better Wednesday evening.
The Kirksville Area Chamber of Commerce held its annual "New Student Welcome" event on the downtown square for all new students of A.T. Still University. This year is the first time the university started their academic year early, so the Chamber decided to hold the event for them.
Organizers say they want new students to be welcomed with open arms and see what the city of Kirksville has to offer them.
"It gets students familiar with the walk from ATSU to downtown and right here on the square. It's a great opportunity for all the students to come out and see Kirksville and know what we have," said Keith Jackson of the New Student Welcome Committee of the Chamber.
Many local businesses had booths at the event to provide information to the students. There was also lots of free food and other goodies to go around.
Organizers say that there will be another New Student Welcome event on September 5 for the new students of Truman State University and Moberly Area Community College.
