Do you have a teenage daughter looking to get involved in the community? Well this next story is for you.
Boy Scouts of America District Executive Scott Meredith of Kirksville is starting a new so-called "Venture Crew" for girls ages 14 through 21. The emphasis is on mentoring younger members. Also part of the adventure: exploring and having some outdoor fun.
"They want to camp they want to do the outdoor stuff you know. So we're just trying to help them realize that if that's an opportunity that they want explore were certainly going to make it available. But you know they're just so over program we're going to try and get them something else be program with. But hopefully some lifetime skills they can use in their adult life," Meredith said.
Meredith is looking for both participants and volunteer group leaders.
The sign-up to start the new Girls Venture Crew will be taking place Thursday evening at 6:30 in Brashear Park in Kirksville. If in the case of inclement weather, the sign-ups will take place at the Central Church of Christ at the corner of Halliburton and La Harpe streets.
