No Kirksville fire chief to be hired for now
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. —
One Kirksville employee has been wearing two hats for several months now.
Since late March, Kirksville Police Chief Jim Hughes has also served as interim manager of the Kirksville Fire Department.
That new responsibility came after former Fire Chief Tom Collins was relieved of his duties.
In a press release that month, Kirksville City Manager Mari Macomber told KTVO that Hughes would work closely with Deputy Chief Jon Cook and the rest of the fire department's leadership.
However, the release did not specify how long Hughes would serve as interim manager.
KTVO reached out to city management Friday afternoon to see if plans would be made to hire for the fire chief position in the future.
Macomber said in an email "initially, we wanted to evaluate how it would work and have determined at this time that it is working. For now, we will not be positing the position."
