Noah's Ark to hold blood drive in honor of young man fighting cancer
Noah's Ark Animal Foundation will be hosting a blood drive on Monday, which will benefit a young man fighting leukemia.
It will be held from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. in honor of Cody Cohen, an 18-year-old Fairfield resident whose senior year of high school was interrupted by a blood cancer called MDS. The MDS quickly progressed to AML (Acute Myelogenous Leukemia), and since January, Cody has had several surgeries, three rounds of chemo, dozens of blood transfusions and one bone marrow transplant, which unfortunately failed. Cody will undergo a second bone marrow transplant this weekend. Those close to Cody are optimistic this transplant will be the perfect match.
â??Noah's Ark is all about saving lives not only animals, but humans too," Noahâ??s Ark Executive Director Dawn Safrit said, â??so we hope to not only help Cody, but others that need blood products, and with every donation, three lives are saved.â??
To make an appointment to donate blood on Monday, you are asked to call Noah's Ark at the 641-472-6080. Safrit says walk-ins are also welcome.
