      Nominate your hero

      Do you know a hero? If so, this is your chance to recognize that person. The North Central Missouri Chapter of the American Red Cross is recognizing community heroes and nominations are being accepted in the following categories:King Foundation Education Hero: A person serving in the educational field who makes a difference in the lives of students (youth or adult) by inspiring them to reach for their goals and live up to their full potential.

      Public Safety Hero: An emergency responder who demonstrates extraordinary dedication and compassion through their work.

      Youth Hero: An individual, under the age of 18, who saves a life through rapid response and good judgment or has been trained to respond in emergencies or disasters.

      Good Samaritan Hero: An individual, over the age of 18, who makes a significant difference in the life of a person(s) or their community through their compassion and thoughtful actions.

      Military Hero: A member of the Armed Forces who demonstrates extraordinary dedication and compassion through his or her work. This individual upholds and defends the values and traditions of the United States Armed Forces.

      Family: This is an individual who has dedicated themselves to caring for immediate family members and in doing so is improving the family??s quality of life.You are asked to submit a typed description, a maximum of two pages, of why you believe the person you are nominating should receive an American Red Cross Day of Heroes Award.Nominations are due by 4 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012. Each winner will receive two free tickets to attend the banquet, one for themselves and one for a guest. Additional tickets are available for purchase.The Day of Heroes Banquet will be held Friday, March 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Baptist Student Center, 110 W. Normal St., Kirksville. Tickets are $25 and the festivities include the award ceremony, dinner and a silent auction.The Red Cross chapter also has sponsorship opportunities available for the Day of Heroes Award and the Day of Heroes Banquet.
