Members of the North Star Rotary Club in Kirksville sponsored an amateur barbecue championship competition Friday.
The community packed the NEMO fairgrounds in an effort to determine the best barbecue around.
The entry fee was $5 dollars per person.
The winner will receive a golden trophy.
Organizers say they're pleased with all the local backing.
â??It's great to see the support the community has. They know why we're doing this in support of Kirksville and supporting our club so it's really encouraging to see that,â?? said Service Chair, Roy Noe.
Proceeds raised from the event will go toward Rotary Club projects.
Professional teams from around the country will compete Saturday.
The winner of the professional competition will be granted a spot at the 2014 Jack Danielâ??s World Championship Invitational Barbeque.
The championship is state-sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society.
Members of the North Star Rotary would like to thank Bellacinos, B & H Printing and Graphics, D & J Enterprises, Lloydâ??s Distributing and Home Depot.
