It's Emergency Medical Service Week, and staff at the Northeast Regional Medical Center are thanking local first responders.
Those first responders took a break out of their busy work day and enjoyed a cookout at the hospital. There, hospital employees thanked the Kirksville community and surrounding area EMS workers for all that they do. NEMO staff say that they are happy to have such a good working relationship with all EMS personnel.
"I truly think it takes a village to take care of our population and our community, and I think we are very, very fortunate to have well trained EMS crews that we have. We work in unison," said Mandy Doumit, NEMO Emergency Department Director.
Celebrating EMS Week is something that the hospital employees do every year. They either host cookouts or send gift baskets as a way to say thank you.
