One-car crash kills little girl, seriously injures her mother
A one-car crash in Schuyler County Monday afternoon claimed the life of a little Heartland girl.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the victim is Cheyenne Baumgardner, 9, of Downing, Missouri.
The crash happened just before 1:30 p.m. on Highway 136 about five miles east of Lancaster.
Baumgardner was a passenger in a car driven by her mother, Ember Baker, 33, also of Downing.
Baker received serious injuries and was taken to Scotland County hospital, then airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. As of Tuesday afternoon, she is listed in critical but stable condition.
The highway patrol reported that Baker lost control on the rain-slickened highway, started to slide and ran off the left side of the roadway where her car slammed into a tree.
Cheyenne Baumgardner was pronounced dead at the scene by Schuyler County Coroner Doug Norman.
