One pleads guilty in Heartland bank robberies
One of the two men facing federal charges in several Heartland bank robberies pleaded guilty.Ryan Zasareti, 21, of Humboldt, Ill., pleaded guilty Friday to two counts of bank robbery. He was charged in connection with robberies at Community First Credit Union in Ottumwa and Wayland State Bank in Mount Pleasant, which was hit twice. Zasareti is scheduled to be sentenced June 17 in federal court in Davenport, Iowa.The other man charged is Morris Thompson III, 27, also of Humboldt, Ill. Thompson is charged with three counts of bank robbery and one count of conspiracy to commit bank robbery. Thompson is scheduled for trial on April 4 in federal court in Davenport. Thompson is also facing bank robbery charges in Kentucky.According to court records, the two got nearly $30,000 in the three robberies in August and September of last year.
