You may recognize them as a nuisance that goes through your trash late at night, but to some kids these critters are simpy "The Awesome Opossums."
That was the topic Wednesday as the Missouri Department of Conservation held its Creature Feature Program at the regional office in Kirksville.
Even though they can be pests to humans, they are pretty cool animals out in the wild.
"They are resistant to snake venom which is pretty cool and they have opposable thumbs just like people do and they have their tails which they can carry things with their tails," said Amanda Moore of the Missouri Department of Conservation.
Opossums are related to Kangaroos and they are the only marsupial in the United States.
The next creature feature will be on the second Wednesday in September and the subject will be endangered animals.
