Optimist Club raises money for youth program
The Optimist Club of Kirksville held its annual pancake breakfast in downtown Kirksville Saturday.
The club is a voluntary organization of men and women banded together for progressive thought and community service.
Saturdayâ??s community service effort was held to bring in funds for the Youth of the Month program.
â??The Youth of the Month program is actually something that we started last year. It recognizes middle school-aged students, boys and girls in the Adair county area, and gives them a little recognition and some scholarship money just to show that we care about them and they're very important to our community and the future of society,â?? said Optimist Club President, Shayne Thomas.
Each attendee was charged $6 for an â??all you can eatâ?? breakfast.
Last year, the organization raised nearly $2,000.
They are expecting the same for this year.
