Ottumwa advertises plans for a Bridge View hotel
OTTUMWA, Iowa —
Ottumwa is making some movement on its plans to add a hotel to the Bridge View Center.
City planners are revising their proposal this week, in the hopes of attracting more private developers.
The goal is to construct a four-story hotel attached to the existing building. City Planner Kevin Flanagan says hotel amenities would include a pool and a gym. He estimated the project will cost up to $8 million.
Flanagan told KTVO he hopes this investment will help Ottumwa compete with bigger cities.
"People want to stay where the event is occurring, they just do," Flanagan said. "It's more advantageous to the events that you're going to, and that 80 rooms is a good mark for us when you look at that because we have overflow capacity a very short distance away."
City staffers will advertise this plan for the next month. Then, they will choose one private developer from a list of contenders to award this project to.
