Ottumwa city manager says road construction will pay off come 2015, beyond
If you live in Ottumwa or have driven through the City of Bridges recently, you probably noticed quite a bit of construction going on.
The major project at this time is near the Quincy Drive area from Hwy 34 to the city limits. There's a "right-in" and a "right out" over by Orscheln's where people can get in and out of town. Ottumwa City Administrator Joe Helfenberger says there will soon be additional turn lanes which should help commuters quite a bit.
He also says a major multi-million dollar project is expected to kick off on Friday.
â??Currently the $16.3 million [Flood Protection Mitigation Project] is going to be underway after tomorrow's special city council meeting at 3 p.m., Helfenberger said. â??They will be approving and going ahead with the water main next week, but this will keep us closer to schedule.â??
Helfenberger says the Market Street Bridge Project will lead to more road closures next year, but by 2015 you should be able to see the fruits of their labor.
