Ottumwa father, son win lottery 5 months apart
OTTUMWA, Iowa —
An Ottumwa man is feeling pretty lucky this month, after winning $50,000 in the Iowa Lottery.
Bryan Howard, 47, collected his winnings Friday.
It was the last top prize available in the lottery’s ‘7 is a Blast’ scratch game.
He’s carrying on a family tradition.
In February, his father, 81-year-old Wayne Howard, also of Ottumwa, won a $10,000 prize from a scratch ticket.
Howard picked up the winning scratch ticket at Yesway on court street last Friday.
That’s right after he redeemed a winning Powerball ticket at the lottery’s headquarters in Clive.
Howard told the Iowa Lottery he plans to save most of the winnings for retirement.
