Ottumwa Fire Department responds to two adjacent house fires
OTTUMWA, IOWA —
The Ottumwa Fire Department responded to two house fires early Friday morning.
At 4:40 a.m. authorities were called to the 300-block of Washington Street. The second structure that caught on fire is directly behind the first.
Deputy Fire Chief Cory Benge says this is the fourth or fifth time authorities have had to put out a fire at this address.
“Pretty good sign that these fires are being intentionally set. This morning’s fire had a great potential to damage the neighboring properties. Luckily, our firefighters got there on scene pretty quick. The fire had a pretty good head start on us, obviously to become fully involved, but they took care of it, knocking the fire down," said Benge.
Benge says no one lives in the house and the property is uninsured.
The fires are currently under investigation.
