Ottumwa Fire Department's annual ball raises money for a good cause

The 80th annual Ottumwa Fireman's Ball is happening in the City of Bridges Friday evening at the Hotel Ottumwa.

Not only is the fireman's ball a night of fun, the proceeds raised all go to a good cause. The event is open to the public, and tickets will be sold at the door for $7 a piece. The money all goes to the Ottumwa Fire Department's fire safety program, and is used to buy coloring books and fire safety items for kids in the community. Master Firefighter and ball chairman Joshua Reynolds tells KTVO what he looks forward to the most year after year.

â??Just getting together with all the guys at the department, you know with us, working different crews, sometimes we don't all get to hang out as much, so it's nice, and everyone to get together for a good cause and also we get to interact with the public in kind of a different way,â?? Reynolds said.

The annual ball runs from 7 p.m. until midnight. Lonesome Road, a band from Cedar Rapids will perform from 8 p.m. to midnight.
