Ottumwa firefighters battle two fires in one night
OTTUMWA, Iowa —
Just as Ottumwa crews cleared the scene of a vacant house fire on Washington Street Wednesday night, they were called to another moments later.
Right around midnight Thursday, Ottumwa police officers noticed smoke coming from the back of a vacant home, this time on North Adella Street.
Most of the fire was controlled within an hour.
Ottumwa Fire Chief Tony Miller told KTVO no one was living at the house when it caught fire, and that it's currently placarded by the Ottumwa Health Department.
In June of last year, KTVO told you about an assault, involving the former resident of this house.
Gregory Allen Hawk, 57, was charged then, accused of shooting a neighbor with a pellet gun and of drug possession.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
