Ottumwa Firefighters climbing for a good cause
Since January 1, three Ottumwa Firefighters have been training for a competition thatâ??s unlike any other.
On April 7, Cory Dillon, Joshua Reynolds and James Gillespie will be competing in Des Moines in the American Lung Association Fight for Air Climb. They will each be climbing more than 17 flights of stairs wearing 70 pounds of firefighter gear.
On Wednesday, the three guys practiced running stairs at West Gate Towers.
â??With our job it's very important for you us to be physically fit anyway and if we can have a goal -- something to push forward and plus raise money for a good cause it's really something we enjoy doing,â?? said Reynolds.
The race will be in relay form. One person will climb 17 floors of the EMC Insurance Companyâ??s building. Another will climb 17 floors of the Hub Tower and the last leg will end with someone climbing 32 floors of the Marriott Hotel.
The guys hope to finish in less than 11 minutes.
