Ottumwa firefighters serve food, bus tables for charity

Pizza Hut gave free breadsticks to patrons who donated a toy to Operation Sparky Clause

Ottumwa firefighters took on a new job Wednesday night, taking orders, serving food and bussing tables at the OFD's annual Tip Night held at the Southside Pizza Hut/Wingstreet.

Organizer Josh Chance and some of the other firefighters worked at the restaurant. All the tips they collect will go to support the fire department's Sparky Claus program.

â??The last couple years, we did celebrity waiter nights for Pizza Hut in Ottumwa and what we use the money for is for coats and hats and gloves for school age kids to our Operation Sparky Claus,â?? Chance said. â??We've already given out probably a dozen coats this year, and we're looking at giving out another 30-40 coats to needy kids in the community.â??

The OFD will be collecting donations for Operation Sparky Claus until December 20th at the Central Fire Station.
