Ottumwa Firefighters' wives to start Ladies Auxiliary Club

The Ottumwa Fire Department is a vital part of keeping the community safe and now the wives of the firefighters want to help give back by starting a Ladies Auxiliary Club.

Part of the clubâ??s plan is to help local fundraisers and charities.

Currently there are 25 women that have shown interest in joining the club.

â??We had a Ladies Auxiliary back in the day where it was just a couple of women who'd cook for their husbands when they were on a fire for an over-extended period. So we kind of wanted to help support our husbands and give back to working with Red Cross alongside the Salvation Army on a fire scene, whether it was providing food or water in general,â?? said Jennifer Reynolds, Auxiliary Club Member.

To kick off fundraising for the club, there will be a bake sale Saturday morning at the south side Ottumwa Fire Station from 9 a.m. to noon.

Reynolds said the club will planning a soup dinner for the fall and will also be helping with Sparky Claus over the holidays.
