Ottumwa Flood Protection Project begins Monday

The City of Ottumwa has authorized Portzen Construction to begin the first phase of the $16.2 million Flood Protection and Mitigation Project in Ottumwa's west side.

The project will be completed in three phases and includes the installation of a 96 inch diameter storm water pipe and construction of a flood wall around the Ottumwa Water and Hydro plant.

Work will start on Monday, November 4th, at the intersection of McLean and W. Main Street.

Motorists can expect street closures and should seek other routes around the work zone.

This will be an large, multi-month project.

Drivers should remain alert to changing traffic flows and moving equipment in and near the project area.

For more information about this project, the public is invited to attend an informational meeting on Monday, November 4th at 5 p.m. at Westgate Towers, 910 W. Second Street in Ottumwa.

Information regarding traffic changes and street closings, the local impact, and other public improvements will be provided at Mondayâ??s meeting.
