Ottumwa Kiwanis Club distributes gifts to families going through tough economic times

Ottumwa Hy-Noon Kiwanis members wrap gifts to distribute to nearly 25 families this Christmas

The Ottumwa Hy-Noon Kiwanis Club is making sure no child is forgotten this holiday season.

Club members spent the afternoon wrapping gifts for about 25 children in the community, which will then be delivered to families in need Monday night and Tuesday.

Money is raised to buy the presents at the Kiwanis club's weekly meetings. Members donate monetary donations called "happy bucks" at each meeting, and that money is saved to buy the Christmas gifts for kids at the end of the year.

â??At Kiwanis, our worldwide mission is to help children, and our local Kiwanis clubs do a great deal through this and other projects throughout the year to help the children in our community,â?? Sue Huff said. â??Iâ??m very proud to be a Kiwanian because children are never forgotten and particularly at Christmas.â??

Huff says the Kiwanis club collaborates with both the Salvation Army and Iowa Kids University to select the families they reach out to going through tough economic times.
