Ottumwa lights up courtyard during second annual Lights of Love Project
Many Ottumwans finished their Black Friday Festivities in the downtown courtyard for the second annual Lights of Love Project.
48 Christmas trees were sold to sponsors or in memorial--double the amount from last year. The trees were lit up and illuminated the downtown area.
These trees will remain lit for the remainder of the holiday season and the money raised will be spent on Main Street development.
Main Street Ottumwa Committee member, Julie Zorn, said the Ottumwa community is supportive of this new tradition.
"We're very, very proud of Ottumwa's support," said Zorn. "We had very many people that wanted to do the trees. Last year we did 24 and we doubled it this year. So it's just fantastic. It's a beautiful night and a beautiful way to kick off the holiday season."
Santa Claus also made an appearance to help Little Ms. Main Street winner, Ashlynn, help light the big city tree.
