Ottumwa man arrested after high speed chase

An Ottumwa man is facing a slew of charges after an early morning high speed chase lands him in jail.

Dale Joe Clark of 146 Palmetto Avenue in Ottumwa, is facing charges of Driving While Barred, Expired Plates, Improper Use of Registration, No Proof of Insurance, Speeding, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and other traffic violations.

According to the Fairfield Police Department, officers attempted to make a traffic stop around 7:15 Friday morning, after noticing a vehicle had expired plates.

The vehicle refused to stop and a 40 minute high speed chase ensued through Jefferson and Van Buren Counties.

Law enforcement eventually disabled the vehicle near on the Leando side of the Des Moines River in Van Buren County. Clark attempted to escape on foot, but was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.

Officers from the Jefferson, Van Buren and Wapello County Sheriff's Offices, as well as State Patrol assisted in the arrest.

Clark's case has not been posted online, so it is not clear if he is still in custody.
