An Ottumwa woman has found a truck she says was stolen from her home Sunday night.

Elizabeth Shepherd said she left her truck running outside of her home on Mary Street around 6 p.m. Sunday. She came back outside less than a minute later, and it was gone.

Around 8 a.m. Tuesday, a friend spotted the vehicle parked in a driveway a few blocks away from Shepherd’s house.

Shepherd said she and her 5-year-old son were still asleep when the truck was recovered Tuesday morning. Her son was just as excited to hear the news.

"He said, 'mommy, you got your truck back,' and I was like, 'yes, baby, mommy's got her truck back,' and he shot right out of bed and gave me a big hug," Shepherd said.

Other than a flat tire, Shepherd said the truck was working just fine. She added that $10 in cash was still inside the vehicle, right where she left it.

Shepherd said she’s still trying to figure out who stole her truck. If she does, Shepherd said she will press charges.
