Ottumwa music director organizes Christmas concert at First Presbyterian

Sarah Deaton, Music Director at First Presbyterian Church in Ottumwa flips through sheet music Thursday. The concert starts at 5:30 p.m. Sunday/KTVO

The First Presbyterian Church in Ottumwa is hosting its first Christmas Concert Sunday evening.

Vocal and handbell choirs from both First Presbyterian and Indian Hills Community College have been practicing for months.

Sarah Deaton, Music Director at First Presbyterian said this is her fourth month on the job. Deaton said she imagined a night of music for all families to enjoy.

“We want to involve the community, the community needs to know about us and for one thing, we have incredible talent here that’s not being shown and really, we have gifts that God gave to us that we need to spread," Deaton said. "So we need to have the community be able to come in and share that with us.”

Sunday night’s concert will include performances from an adult choir of about 80 people.

The concert starts at 5:30 p.m. in the church’s sanctuary on west Fourth Street. Admission is free.
