Ottumwa Parks Board gives Babe Ruth League fundraiser the go-ahead

The Babe Ruth League's fundraiser for a new facility at the baseball field in Ottumwa is going full steam ahead.
The project got the official approval from the Ottumwa Parks Department last week and is now moving forward with its goal to raise $90,000 by the end of September. The Securing a Better Baseball Committee hopes to start construction on a new facility this fall.
The committee would like to replace the old buildings on site with a two-story building with concessions, restrooms, storage and a press box all in one. Though they are about halfway to their goal, more events and fundraisers will be held through the end of the year to raise additional funds.
"We're in the talking phase of doing some fundraisers over the winter to help with the items that will need to go inside the building," said Holly Dommer, of the Securing a Better Baseball Committee. "The $100,000 pretty much just gets us the building and nothing inside it, so there will be more fundraisers to come."
There are different levels of donation ranging from a one-time commitment to a three-year commitment. For more information or to donate, contact Schulz at 777-8525, Dommer at 799-0308, committee member Jane Berg at 777-4471 or Jason Blunt at 777-1041. You can also e-mail donations and questions to
