Ottumwa police respond to five crashes by noon Friday

Officers on scene said the driver of a Dodge Stratus swerved to avoid another vehicle, and struck a utility poll/KTVO

Slippery conditions sent several drivers off the road Friday.

Ottumwa police officers had responded to at least five crashes by noon.

Around 8 a.m. Friday, crews were called to a single-vehicle crash at the 1000 block of North Jefferson Street.

Officers on scene said the driver of a Dodge Stratus swerved to avoid another vehicle and struck a utility poll. As a result, cable service was down for at least one household nearby.

The driver refused medical treatment, and no citations were issued.
