Ottumwa Pro Balloon Races around the corner

The Ottumwa Pro Balloon Races are coming up next week -- from June 19 to June 23.

Ottumwa's balloon races are the longest running hot air balloon event in Iowa and is also the only free balloon event in the state.

As always, pilots will be coming in from across the country to participate in three competitive flights and two night glows.

"The glows are after each flight on both Friday night and Saturday night, the pilots come back, they re-inflate their balloons and as it gets dark, they glimmer and twinkle and it's a beautiful, beautiful place to be," said Holly Dommer, co-chair of the Ottumwa Pro Balloon Races.

If you've been to the races before, each year brings different balloons, so offers a view never seen before. You can also get as involved in the races as you want, even work on a crew to help inflate and fly a pilot's balloon.
