Ottumwa Public Library to hold book selection party

The Ottumwa Public Library is looking for input from local residents for new book ideas to add to their collection.

A book selection party will be held at the library this Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

At this open house for the public, laptops, catalogues and book reviews will be available for perusing and making suggestions for next month's collection. Refreshments will also be provided.

The event conveniently coincides with the beginning of holiday shopping season so these book suggestions can double as potential gift ideas.

If a book idea is selected, and most of them will be, the person that suggested it will be first on the hold list, meaning they will be the first to check it out when it arrives.

Sonja Ferrell, Director of the Ottumwa Public Library, says she's eager to hear opinions and choices from the public.

"I'm just excited for people to come in here and pick what they want to read," said Ferrell. "So that we're not trying to read people's minds and we're able to listen from the perspective of our patrons."

Wednesday's event is open to anyone and free of charge.
