Ottumwa Public Works prepares plows for possible snowfall
With a good chance of snow in the forecast, the Ottumwa Public Works and Streets Departments are making necessary preparations.
Public Works Superintendent Steve Edgington says crews have been gearing up for inclement weather for the past two months. Getting their eight large trucks ready, which includes checking the hydraulics, plows, spinners and pumps. Edgington reminds motorists of safety tips when driving near the plows.
â??A lot of drivers like to get in front of them, but you're better off staying behind them because they are plowing off the snow they are spreading down material to melt the snow and also it has sand in it for traction for preparation, we hauled in another 300 tons of sand,â?? he said. â??We've got between 400 and 500 tons of salt on hand, so we're ready to go for the weekend.â??
