American Home Finding is the sponsoring agency for the Teen Health Center, which operates at the Ottumwa High School, and provides healthcare services to hundreds of students each year. This is the third year of a five year commitment that the ORLF Auxiliary made to the Teen Health Center to contribute $60,000 annually.
â??Without the Auxiliaryâ??s generous support, the Teen Health Center could not survive,â?? said Boxx-Vass. â??The Center provides students with the most accessible, barrier free, adolescent friendly health care possible.â??
The Auxiliary made the decision to contribute to the Teen Health Center because the organization felt this medical care was an important service to the students and to their parents. It was a decision that fit with the Auxiliaryâ??s history of investing its funds in the health of the community.
The Teen Health Center, like a regular doctorâ??s office, sees students for a variety of reasons from acute care, to maintenance of health conditions, weight management, and in some cases provides for dental hygiene and mental health needs. The Center allows students to be seen in the clinic and return to class right away, thus avoiding missing class, and having to have a parent leave work to take their child to the doctor.
Gretchen Larson, President of the Auxiliary, presented the $60,000 check to Tracey Boxx-Vass, Executive Director of American Home Finding, administrators of the Teen Health Center.
