The Ottumwa Fire Department spent Friday putting out the flames at a house fire on the 100 block of Schuyler in Ottumwa.
It was around 7:20 Friday morning when fire crews were dispatched.
The first arriving engine saw smoke and fire coming from the house.
They immediately did a search of the residence and luckily did not find anyone inside.
30 minutes into the fire fighting operation, fire crews had to go into defensive attack due to the construction of the house.
The fire spread into concealed areas and hindered their operations.
â??No one was hurt and that's the best part. No one was hurt and we had six firefighters initially and we ended up with 12 total on the scene. So good day,â?? said Deputy Fire Chief Cory Benge.
The fire took the majority of the day to put out. The state fire marshal was on the scene Friday afternoon.
At this time the cause of the fire is unknown and it is under investigation.
