Ottumwa School District was recognized as a leader in the state of Iowa today.
The school district was one of 39 districts selected for the first teacher leadership systems.
The state set aside millions of dollars in an effort to impact one-third of all Iowa students in year one.
As part of being selected, Ottumwa School District will received a $1.4 million grant.
Superintendent Davis Eidahl explained the district's application process.
"We gathered a team of administrators and teachers," said Eidahl. "And we developed a plan on utilizing leadership roles to help improve and accelerate our student achievement."
Eidahl said the grant will help support curriculum instruction, assessment, and keep the school out front as a leader.
