UPDATE: New information following Tuesday's nights shooting on Ottumwa's west end.

The victim in the shooting has been identified at 16-year-old Christian Madueno of Ottumwa.

According to the Ottumwa Police Department, Madueno had been dropped off at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center Tuesday with a gunshot wound to the head.

He was then transported to University of Iowa Health Center and remains in critical condition.

The shooting happened at the apartments on Taft Circle.

The suspect, 18-year-old Venhure Yosef Tesgay was arrested Wednesday morning.

He's been charged with attempt to commit murder.

But those charges could change.

"Depending on what happens with the victim. At some point if the victim would not survive his injuries we would be looking at other charges,” said Ottumwa Police Chief Tom McAndrew.

The Ottumwa Police Department is still interviewing witnesses.

The shooting wasn't Tsegay's first run in with the law.

He is also awaiting trial on assault and weapons charges.

The incident remains under investigation.
