Ottumwa to cap off farmer's market with fall festival
OTTUMWA, Iowa —
Ottumwa is capping off its downtown farmer's market with a fall festival next month.
Earlier this summer, Growing Wapello Together and Main Street Ottumwa came together to organize the monthly market on Court Street.
It's an effort to give residents more access to fresh food, in what some might call a food desert.
“That simply means that residents within the general area do not have access to health and fresh produce, so that was the initial need for a farmer's market in this location," Schulz said.
To celebrate a successful season, volunteers will host an Oct. 5 festival in the same spot.
Starting at 6 p.m., the event will feature entertainment from the Heartland Bootscooters and Bridge City Country.
Vendors will set up shop that night, and once more on Oct.19.
