Ottumwa Transit food drive kicks off next week

Ottumwa Transit is working to fight hunger this holiday season.

December 9th through 14th, Ottumwa Transit busses will be equipped with bins, where riders and people in the community can donate cans and non-perishable goods. The donations will go to the Lord's Cupboard here in the City of Bridges.

Ottumwa Transit Director David Silverio says the best items for donation are packaged food items like canned soups, fruits and vegetables, canned meat and tuna, cereal, rice, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter and pasta.

â??Ottumwa Transit, myself feel that we should try to give back to the community, so we're going to have this drive,â?? Silverio said. â??All your donations are gonna stay right here in Ottumwa, so we'll let Ottumwa feed the Ottumwa people.â??

This is Ottumwa transit's first year doing a drive like this, but they plan to reach out to other charitable organizations in the Ottumwa area in the near future. For more information click here.
