Ottumwa woman wins $30,000 in scratch game
An Ottumwa woman has claimed the last top prize of $30,000 available in the Iowa Lotteryâ??s â??Word Bankâ?? instant-scratch game.
Joanne Stivers claimed her prize Friday at the lotteryâ??s headquarters in Des Moines. She purchased her winning ticket at Caseyâ??s, 1001 E. Main St., in Ottumwa.
When the last top prize is claimed in one of the Iowa Lotteryâ??s scratch games, the game is removed from sale, so with Stiversâ?? claim, the $3 Word Bank game has been discontinued.
Since the lotteryâ??s start in 1985, its players have won more than $3.1 billion in prizes while the lottery has raised more than $1.4 billion for the state programs that benefit all Iowans.
