With New Years only a couple days away, many will be taking their resolutions to the gym.
The YMCA in Ottumwa is one of several fitness facilities in the area that expects to see a steady increase in memberships for the new year.
YMCA fitness instructor Callun Wilkinson said while it's tough at the beginning of the year to start to get into shape, it's important to try to get into a routine.
"The best thing you can do is sign up," said Wilkinson. "You want to be working out maybe three times a week for thirty minutes. Also, especially during the cold season--a great thing to do to workout would be to swim which will loosen up joints in the harsh cold winter. That's a great thing to do."
The Ottumwa YMCA will be holding a New Year New You program for those attempting to jump start their resolutions.
The 14 week program includes such features as personal training sessions and support from a Hy-Vee dietician.
It runs from January 6th to April 15th and will cost $20.14 for members and $120.14 for non-members (which includes a 14 week membership to the gym).
The deadline to sign up is January 12th.
