Ottumwans invited to weigh in on road construction projects

Ottumwa residents are invited to attend two public meetings regarding upcoming road construction projects.

The first meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 29th at 5 p.m. at the Salvation Army. This will be in regards to changing traffic on main and second streets between Jefferson and McPherson streets from one-way traffic to two-way.

The change from one-way to two-way streets will mark a major change in traffic flow on main and second streets through the central business district to Ottumwa's west side. People who live and work in the area are especially encouraged to attend the meeting to ask questions.

â??On Thursday the 30th, they'll be meeting on the Pennsylvania Avenue project at the Free Methodist Church at 5 p.m. We encourage folks in these neighborhoods affected by those projects to come on out and learn about the project and what's all involved,â?? said Ottumwa Public Information Officer Tom Rodgers.

Rodgers says the reconstruction and widening of Pennsylvania Avenue is estimated to cost nearly $2.5 million.
