Ottumwa's own Chris Ash continued his ascension up the football coaching ladder as he finalized a deal to join Urban Meyer's Ohio State program as Co-Defensive Coordinator.
We caught up with Ottumwa High School Athletic Director Tom Kopatich to speak about the opportunity for Ash--Kopatich was the head football coach when Ash played for Ottumwa.
Kopatich said he spoke to an excited Ash today as the coach was at the airport preparing to travel to his new home in Columbus, Ohio.
Kopatich said it's been a pleasure watching Ash's coaching career evolve--one that began coaching youth football in Ottumwa and has now taken him to one of the most storied college programs.
"He's earned it," said Kopatich. "He's worked extremely hard at coaching. It's a tough job. He's put in tremendous hours. He's really studied the game and really worked at it--it's very well deserved what's happening with him."
Ash is a 1992 graduate of Ottumwa High School. He will be leaving behind his position as Defensive Coordinator at the University of Arkansas.
